I found this online and changed it a little. Really yummy!
2 lbs steak (cheap steak is just fine)
1 onion, diced
3 carrots, diced
2 celery sticks, diced (optional)
8 oz mushrooms, thick sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 t paprika
1-2 t Italian Seasoning
1-2 bay leaves
2 c beef stock
2 T cornstarch
1 T water
salt & pepper
6-8 biscuits (store-bought or home made dough)
Brown beef in a pan on all sides, then dump into a pot. In the same pan, fry the onions, garlic, carrots and celery until fragrant. Dump into the pot. Add in paprika, Italian Seasoning, bay leaves, beef stock, salt & pepper. Stir and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and cover. Simmer for 1-2 hours, until meat is very tender. Add in mushrooms, cook for 3-5 mins. Combine cornstarch and water, then add to pot. Cook and stir until thickened. Pour filling into a baking dish (about 2 qt size). Top with biscuits (philo dough or mashed potatoes could work too, but the biscuits are better). Bake at 350 for 30-45 minutes. Make sure whatever is on top is cooked through. Serve warm.
