Crescent Rolls

Crescent Rolls

2 packages yeast
3/4 c water (110 degrees)
1/2 c sugar
1 t salt
2 eggs
1/2 c shortening
4 c flour
1/4 c butter, softened

Dissolve yeast in water. Stir in sugar, salt, eggs, shortening and 2 cups of flour. Beat until smooth. Mix in remaining flour until smooth. Knead dough, then cover it and let it rise in a warm place until double (1 or 1.5 hours). Punch down dough. Divide in half. Roll each half into a circle - 12 inches in diameter. Cut into 8 wedges each. Roll up wedges starting with the wide end and place on greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise until double (about an hour). Bake at 400 degrees for 12-15 mintues or until golden brown. Brush the tops with butter when they come out.
